ACNE TREATMENT MANCHESTER

When it comes to acne, many people have often tried a variety of ‘over the counter’ acne treatment with very little success. While there’s a wide range of acne treatment, there are very few that actually help. This can particularly be frustrating when none of the treatments actually help with your condition.

Whether you’re dealing with acne on your face, back or elsewhere on the body, acne spots can be debilitating to live with. But you don’t have to suffer. There is an array of treatments that have been scientifically proven to reduce the appearance of acne and to help manage the symptoms.

ACNE TREATMENT BEFORE AND AFTER

A wide range of acne treatments is available depending on your acne’s severity and location. We will often recommend a staged acne treatment plan over some time, where each stage will produce an incremental improvement in your acne. Combined, these treatments will produce a worthwhile, sustained improvement. Your expert dermatology consultant will explain your treatment options and help you decide the best programme for you – see the images below.

During your consultation, all your treatment options will be discussed and your dermatologist will advise on the most suitable treatment for you. Find out more information on the common ways acne can be treated below.

TYPES OF ACNE WE TREAT

There are many types of acne, and at Everything Skin Clinic™ we can treat them all.

Acne is a systemic condition, which means it manifests itself in different ways. The different types of acne can include:

  • Acne Rosacea
  • Acne Vulgaris
  • Adult Acne
  • Cystic Acne

Whichever type you’re suffering from, our various acne treatment can help combat your symptoms.

TYPES OF ACNE TREATMENT at our Manchester Clinic

All of our treatment plans are personalised to each individual patient. During your consultation, one of our expert dermatologists will identify the type of acne you have and the severity of the condition. We will then put together a personalised treatment plan that is most likely to target and visibly improve your condition.

There are many treatments, both prescription and over the counter, whilst over the counter treatments may be perfectly suitable for the mild acne, a patient will need to consider prescription treatments when over the counter treatments are no longer effective.

Microdermabrasion is a skin exfoliating treatment that can be used to treat acne and improve the appearance of the skin. It gets rid of acne by gently removing the outer layer of skin using tiny crystals, leaving the skin looking softer, brighter and stimulating new cell growth. It is great for treating acne. It is a safe and effective procedure that is suitable for both men and women of all skin types. Each treatment takes approximately 45 minutes and a course of 3-6 treatments is usually recommended.

Chemical peels work by gently removing the outer layer of the skin. This stimulates new skin growth which helps to reduce oil, unblock pores, reduce blackheads and minimise acne breakouts. There are different strengths or levels of chemical peel available. The superficial peel is the mildest form and is used to minimise acne breakouts by reducing blackheads, oiliness and unblocking pores.

Intense pulsed light treatment treats redness and thread veins which are commonly associated with acne and acne rosacea. This treatment works by using a powerful light that destroys the bacteria that causes acne as well as removing blood vessels that cause redness. This is a safe and non-invasive treatment and a course is recommended.

Skin boosters are tiny injections of dermal fillers which are used to hydrate the skin and improve the skin’s quality. What makes them different from other injectables is that they are injected into the skin rather than underneath the skin.

In some rare cases, minor surgery in the form of subcision or excision of cysts can be used as a treatment. This surgical treatment removes troublesome cysts if another treatment has not worked.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Acne, also known as acne vulgarise, is a result of oily secretions under the skin that block the tiny opening of hair follicles. When these become blocked, it leads to blackheads, whiteheads, papules, nodules, cysts or pustules.

Acne causes can include, hormonal changes, genetics, inflammation and bacteria. Many female sufferers of acne also report a worsening of their condition around their menstrual period.

In some cases, acne can be so severe that it can leave scarring, even milder acne can also result in scarring especially if the sufferer picks the spots.

Although this condition most commonly affects teenagers, it can affect any age group. Sufferers will experience oiliness of the skin around the face, upper parts of the chest and back. These spots can be painful with the colour ranging from red or yellow with whiteheads and blackheads, or a mix of all these features.

Scars are part of the skin’s natural healing process after it has been damaged and in the case of acne, are caused by acne cysts, often worsened by patients picking at spots on the face. Most acne scars will improve over time, however for persistent scarring, we offer a range of treatments to reduce the appearance of scarring such as fractional laser resurfacing and medical skin needling.

Acne affects most people at some point during their lives and will usually go away on its own, usually during teenage years. If acne is still prevalent in adulthood, treatment may be needed to help to control acne or to help reduce acne scarring.

Treatment times vary depending on the case of acne scars on hand, as well as the treatment plan selected. Micro-needling, for example, can produce visible signs of improvement, within 6-8 weeks of treatment.

Our skin treatments for scars are long-lasting, and often permanent, although in some circumstances you may need repeated treatments in the future.

The main aim of treatment is to prevent scarring and reduce active acne, with early treatment being important to achieve this goal.

In general, our treatments aim to:

  • Unplug blocked pores
  • Kill or reduce bacteria
  • Reduce skin inflammation
  • Prevent sebum creation

As well as offering the best possible treatments available specifically to your condition. Most acne treatments will target only a specific type of acne lesion. But some people will have a variety of acne lesions. Some treatments will be ‘broad spectrum’, which means that they will target all the lesions seen in acne.

Acne treatment can be different from person to person, the treatment you have will be individualised by a trained dermatologist who can understand your condition and the severity of it.

Everything Skin clinic™ is one of very few clinics that can prescribe medication for acne. Medication is available on prescription by a fully trained dermatologist who understands the way the medication works and is able to monitor the treatment carefully. There are many myths around medications for this condition, as a result, it’s important to consult a fully qualified consultant dermatologist who can discuss the right treatment for the type and severity of your condition. It’s important to note that early treatment can prevent scarring, both physical and psychological.
