Dermal Fillers are the popular choice for achieving plump, youthful and smooth skin. Not only that, dermal fillers offer an improvement virtually immediately and lasts between 4-6 months.
This cosmetic procedure helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other visible signs of ageing.
What are Dermal Fillers?
The main ingredient in Dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid. With Small amounts of this injected into the skin to add volume. The dermal fillers work by filling in wrinkles and adding volume to soft tissue.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally-occurring substance found in the body, made of sugar.
As you age, your body produces less Hyaluronic Acid. As this is reduced, it results in a decrease of the moisturising and plumping effects. Once the Hyaluronic Acid decreases in the boy, this is when fine lines, wrinkles and loss of volume start to appear.
When it’s injected into the skin, it’s naturally integrated into the tissue, which adds volume. Dermal fillers can work for problem areas on the face, neck or backs of hands to create younger looking skin and to refresh the overall appearance of your skin.
This treatment is non-permanent, this means that you may require further injections in the future to keep the youthful appearance.
Is the treatment right for me?
As we age, our bodies stop producing as much collagen and elastin, both of which contribute to the youthful look.
As a result of this decreased collagen and elastin, we begin to developing wrinkled, sagging and dull looking skin.
Fillers will be the right treatment for you if you’re looking to:
- Improve definition of the lips and increase volume
- Reduce shadowing under the eyes
- Improve downturned mouth corners
- Reduce lines around the mouth
- Improve jowls
- Reduce the appearance of a nasal hump i.e. hook nose
- Want youthful looking hands
Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers such as the Juvederm range can replace lost volume.
Fillers can smooth out facial folds and wrinkles as well as to enhance lips, cheeks, chins, smoker’s lines, the lips, tell-tale drying and wrinkling of the décolletage as well as smile lines and the backs of hands.
Such fillers are used for replacing volume into the deeper layers of the skin.
Treatment areas include:
- Nasolabial folds
- Tear Troughs
Cheek volume can be effectively replaced by deep fillers, while superficial fine lines can be effectively reduced by thin fillers.
8-point face lift, liquid lift and MD codes are new and excellent techniques for replacing lost facial volume.
How is treatment performed?
Hyaluronic acid is a clear gel; this gel is then injected in small amounts into the skin using a very fine needle.
What Dermal Fillers do you use?
Which dermal filler we use will depend on the reason for treatment as one product that works well on deep wrinkles will not work as well on very fine lines or skin with orange peel texture.
What should I expect?
Actual results vary person to person and it is important to have realistic expectations of dermal filler treatment. This will be fully discussed during your consultation.
Am I eligible for treatment?
Dermal fillers are not recommended for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you’ve had laser treatment or chemical peeling, we would advise that you wait 2 weeks before going ahead with dermal fillers as it’s important that you wait until the skin has completely healed.
Similarly, we do advise that you have any other skin treatment after treatment for at least 2 weeks.
Dermal fillers are not recommended for inflamed areas of skin or infected areas of the skin. We would not recommend the treatment if you have any other active skin disease in the treatment area.
Are there any side effects?
Reactions are rare and we will discuss all possible side effects with you during a consultation.
The most common side-effects are injection-related reactions such as bleeding or swelling at the injection sites. This will usually only last for one or two days.
How many treatments will I need?
Although dermal fillers are non-permanent, these types of fillers are the safest, however, you will require maintenance appointments to maintain the results.
During your consultation, we will discuss the type of treatments and amount of product you will need. We will also discuss how often you will need to repeat the treatment and if you require multiple treatments.
If you require multiple appointments, we will usually space these around every 2 – 4 weeks, or, until you have achieved the desired outcome.
